What is referred to as the Brazilian variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, initially identified in the city of Manaus, worries researchers because it may apparently infect people who have already been infected and vaccinated. The small variations that occur in the spike protein on the surface of the virus allow it to replicate more easily avoiding the response of the immune system, so it will probably be necessary to reformulate the vaccines in order to update them with these changes. The English variant that has proven to be more virulent, with a record of over one thousand and eight hundred victims in a single day in Britain, is already widespread; but in this case one of the main vaccines in distribution (with problems of availability of recalls after the first dose) still seems to be effective.
