Allergies on the rise due to climate change
The pollen season has significantly lengthened due to climate change and prolonged exposure causes allergies that can be very bothersome: runny nose, burning eyes, asthmatic symptoms and a marked feeling of discomfort. It is estimated that about a quarter of adults in Europe suffer from respiratory allergies, including severe asthmatic forms, while among children, the percentage ranges from thirty to forty percent; it is expected that by 2050, half of Europeans will suffer from symptoms related to the significant increase in allergies. The concentration of pollen and spores in plants has increased, and with the heat invasive species with very aggressive pollen tend to proliferate, while air pollution increases individual sensitivity to allergens; in some regions there are reports of waves of allergens especially in industrialized areas.
