Global warming as priority for Olympic sports

For both winter and summer Olympic sports global warming should be assessed as a high priority, at least according to the opinion of more than four hundred athletes who complain that increasingly high temperatures are threatening the future of sport. For example for winter sports in addition to increasingly artificial snow (with serious injuries becoming more and more frequent), it must be considered that in summer athletes can often no longer train on glaciers because the conditions of the snowpack do not allow it; instead for summer sports is talk about those who complain of algae proliferation in the water due to the high temperatures that have not allowed training. Earthquake shock at Campi Flegrei and Pozzuoli

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake with its epicenter in Pozzuoli in the sea about two and a half kilometers off the seafront has caused rubble to fall and there is also talk of one injured by the collapse of a false ceiling; then damage to a church, some parked cars and panic for the inhabitants who poured into the streets despite the rain. The quake is due to the phenomenon of bradyseism in the Campi Flegrei and also affected peripheral areas of Naples where it was distinctly felt and caused the buildings to sway, from the monitored data it would be the strongest in forty years and of the same magnitude but more prolonged than that of May 20, 2024. The resident population sometimes requires the setting up of tents because living with earthquakes and seismic swarms as easily understandable is not easy and makes it difficult to live in the place.

Eruption of a volcano in Guatemala

Columns of incandescent volcanic ash and gas come out of the crater of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala, there is talk of three hundred families evacuated and thousands of people to whom the authorities have sent a warning to be ready to leave their homes to manage the emergency. People claim to be on alert because of volcanic material reaching homes, then several fronts of incandescent lava are seen descending from the slopes of the volcano. Floods in the city of Bahia Blanca in Argentina

Sixteen victims of the floods that hit the city of Bahia Blanca, a large city located in the south of the city of Buenos Aires in Argentina, there is talk of divers looking for some missing; in fact, entire neighborhoods were flooded by a storm with a large amount of water raining down in a few hours. The coastal area was left without electricity supply and in Bahia Blanca itself the power had been cut off as a precaution. Questionable U.S. positions on climate change

Nations vulnerable to climate change had been supported by aid initiatives from two hundred countries decided during a COP28 conference in 2023, for what had been declared as a kind of victory for developing countries to deal with extreme phenomena, now apparently the United States has decided to no longer fund these initiatives. This is in line with the questionable positions already widely declared by the authorities of not believing in climate change, which are fictions; but for countries that do not have the means for repairs after being hit by extreme phenomena it is a struggle for survival. Re-establishing a healthy ecosystem in the Niger Delta

In Nigeria, in the Niger River delta polluted by decades of fossil fuel exploitation, ecologists would be engaged in interventions that aim to restore the original flora, in particular mangrove forests essential for a healthy ecosystem and ensure the survival of local communities, especially in very degraded areas where biodiversity is seriously threatened. Obese in large numbers in the world

Without incisive changes it is estimated that three billion and eight hundred million adults will be obese in fifteen years, at least according to an estimate by researchers who point out that the epidemic of overweight and obesity is seen as a kind of tragedy, then the problem is that adolescents are increasingly overweight or obese with significant repercussions from the point of view of health. According to forecasts for example a third of all obese young people will live in two regions such as North Africa and the Middle East, then Latin America and the Caribbean, but there would be time to intervene to ensure that this does not happen. Generally the world has gone from nine hundred and twenty-nine million obese people in 1990 to two billion and six hundred million in 2021, more than half of overweight and obese people live in just eight countries: China, India, the United States, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Indonesia and Egypt.

A cyclone approaches Brisbane in Australia

A rare tropical cyclone called "Alfred" is approaching the densely populated east coast of Australia and in particular threatens Brisbane, the third most populated city in the country; there is talk of emergency warnings with hundreds of schools closed and danger of flooding for thousands of homes. Torrential rainfall and potentially destructive gusts of wind are expected, then high waves on the coasts and in the city of Brisbane alone a forecast model warns that almost twenty thousand homes could be flooded. Sandbags have been distributed to defend against any flooding and supermarket shelves are often partially empty to accumulate stock. While cyclones are quite frequent in tropical waters and therefore quite warm it is rare for them to form in colder waters and therefore in this case it would be the first since 1974.

Floods in Jakarta in Indonesia

Days of heavy rainfall with consequent flooding have forced thousands of people to leave their homes in Indonesia's capital Jakarta, then more intense rains are expected in the coming days. There is talk of submerged roads where rescue must be brought with rubber dinghies, while the authorities plan to activate pumps to extract water from flooded areas, then evacuation centers have been set up and basic necessities have been distributed to the rescued people; difficulties due to flooding also in the hospital in the city of Bekasi forcing the evacuation of patients. It is worth mentioning the change of flooding scenery also in the Canary Islands due to intense cloudbursts with roads transformed into torrents of water and mud with difficulties and inconvenience for the population.

Damage on the Reunion island hit by a cyclone

The island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean in French overseas territory was recently lashed by cyclone "Garance" which caused damage, uncovering roofs, uprooting trees and leaving tens of thousands of users without electricity and water; then there is talk of at least two victims and inconvenience for the population. Torrential rainfall turned the streets into torrents of flooding water that swept over cars and dragged debris, some people said they were frightened by the force of the cyclone.
