Impact of climate change on winter sports

Many will have noticed how often in the mountains you only see a narrow trail of hard "artificial" snow on the slopes, flanked by green fields and trees not covered in snow and this can only have a significant impact on winter sports, for example a study conducted in 2024 found that the number of locations suitable to host the Olympic Games was rapidly decreasing due to climate change, with only half of the twenty-one previously identified locations still suitable to host them by 2050. Ski athletes complain about how competition conditions have changed due to higher temperatures; many typical training parameters need to be adjusted and corresponding schedules revised, sports equipment adapted; and almost always it is no longer possible to train on glaciers in the summer.
