Andes strain of hantavirus found on cruise ship
Health authorities have confirmed that it would be an Andes strain of hantavirus that can be transmitted from person to person (usually spread by rodents), identified on a cruise ship that sailed from Ushuaia in Argentina to Cape Verde and which prompted investigations regarding this rare infection. Three people were transferred from the ship for treatment, including the ship's doctor (whose health conditions have improved and are stable after initially being described as serious), and a new case is suspected. In the coming days the ship will dock in Santa Cruz on the Spanish island of Tenerife and the passengers will be repatriated. It is really very different from Covid and very from flu, low the pandemic risk; transmission occurs through close physical contact such as in a little cabin of a ship and disinfection measures have been taken with passengers isolated in their cabins.
