Initiatives to protect young people from Internet

Data monitored on how adolescents are influenced by digital applications shows a clear increase in the distress experienced by the most vulnerable youngsters, especially during transitional periods considered critical for character development (with a brain not yet fully developed), therefore some propose initiatives for targeted interventions, educational programs and preventive actions; then enhancing digital security, providing psychosocial support, all to offer support at every level to the people involved for an effective protection against potential online risks. Banning the use of social networks for those under sixteen is already a regulation to be adopted for example planned in countries like France and Spain and generally the European Union aims not only at social networks but also considers banning artificial intelligence, although there is resistance to these initiatives.

Floods and landslides in Colombia and Morocco

At least thirteen people are reported dead and fifty thousand evacuated in Colombia due to floods and landslides following weeks of unusually heavy rainfall, there is talk of a kind of tropical storm likely fueled by the conditions favored by the global current "La Nina" which affected thirty-one out of thirty-two departments in the country. As for Morocco after a downpour a car was swept away by floodwaters causing four deaths and one missing person in the north of the country, then more than one hundred thousand people were evacuated from areas in the northwest of the country, with the Sidi Kacem region particularly affected. To report shifting the focus to Italy that the ground continues to collapse in Niscemi in Sicily region where a symbol commemorating a previous landslide also fell, furthermore several landslides have been reported throughout the country.

Japan struggling with roof snow removal

At least thirty-five people are reported dead and four hundred injured in Japan mainly due to falls from roofs while clearing snow, masses of cold Arctic air caused heavy snowfall especially in regions facing the Sea of Japan where snow accumulation in some areas reached record levels, creating difficulties and making roads hard to passable in addition to cancellations of rail services. Apparently it is common in the country to clear snow from roofs to prevent them from collapsing and accidents occur every year, but this year they are particularly frequent. Shifting focus to Spain significant damages from floods in Andalusia are noted while major disruptions for the population continue in areas affected by a storm.

Abnormal hot and cold temperatures in Canada

Two types of winter are occurring in Canada with areas of the country where trees are blooming and others covered by a thick blanket of snow with the cities of Vancouver and Toronto cited as examples of these climate anomalies, the first without snow for forty-three years and with cherry trees in bloom and the second very cold with a thick layer of snow, then there are places where ski and ice skating facilities have been closed and others where lakes have frozen over as well as places with alerts due to icy wind gusts and extremely low temperatures. A polar vortex characterized by cold Arctic fronts is said to be responsible for the waves of low temperatures which sometimes tend to weaken, this situation of abnormal temperatures (both in terms of cold and heat on average) has also been partially monitored in some European countries.

Storm with flooding in Portugal

The wave of bad weather that is battering some regions of Spain causing thousands of evacuations in Andalusia (particularly affecting the town of Grazalema with significant hydrogeological instability) has also affected Portugal; there is a report of one victim, a man swept away with his car by floods on a road in the Alentejo region in the south of the country, then hundreds of people forced to leave their flooded homes and inconveniences for the population dealing with impassable roads in areas affected by heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts. To report shifting the attention to Italy a risk that the important railway line connecting Calabria to Sicily could be damaged by storm surges along the coastal route; in fact, in one spot in Calabria the waves are already essentially reaching the tracks with an orange alert for storm surges.

Bad weather in Spain in Andalusia

A storm characterized by heavy rainfall, downpours and gusts of wind is affecting Andalusia in Spain, there is talk of a missing person and about three thousand five hundred people affected by flooding due to what is described as a sort of atmospheric river loaded with moisture, with the ground no longer able to absorb the water. Many roads are impassable and streams of water converge into raging torrents and infiltrate because the soil is too saturated and raising concerns about the very high river levels, then rescuers are busy responding to numerous calls for help. Weather forecasts warn of the possible impact of the storm on the Balearic and alerts have been issued to be cautious of bad weather across all the islands, a similar situation is occurring in Galicia across all provinces and with other areas of Spain experiencing the storm with lesser intensity.

Floods in areas north of Morocco

Days of intense rainfall interrupted by heavy storms have affected areas in northern Morocco with the city of Ksar El Kebir in the northwest of the country particularly hit due to the overflowing of the Loukkos River; reports mention over fifty thousand people evacuated (almost half of the residents) and rescues carried out by boat, causing significant problems for the population forced to move through flooded streets, then rescue operations are also ongoing in the province of Sidi Slimane. To report shifting the focus to Italy more rain is forecast in Niscemi in Sicily where a landslide is a concern and in general several inhabited areas are affected by hydrogeological instability, with a situation (similar to Calabria) that also requires addressing the dangers posed by rising sea levels and coastal erosion.

Plan to reduce PFAS risks in Great Britain

After France Great Britain has also presented a plan to tackle the threat posed by perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) which are very persistent pollutants whose molecules are practically indestructible in order to reduce their risks to health and the environment by identifying their sources, how they spread and how to reduce exposure (by setting limits and public regulations) for both humans and the environment. These PFAS are a group of around ten thousand synthetic chemical molecules used in many areas, for example in pizza boxes and many types of food containers, as well as in waterproof fabrics, cosmetics, and to protect the health of future generations it is crucial to address this issue since traces of these pollutants have even been found in Tibet and Antarctica and the health costs in Europe are estimated to be significant.

Italy grappling with cases of hydrogeological instability

A building has fallen off the edge of a canyon-like formation created by a landslide in Niscemi in Sicily in the province of Caltanissetta, it seems that the landslide front stretching for kilometers had already been identified centuries ago, but little was done to secure the area; then storm surges following the recent Mediterranean hurricane are eroding it deeply infiltrating in certain points left exposed below the region's coastline, there is even talk of towns where waves now reach the houses. In Rome near the Imperial Forums a pine tree fell in a high-tourist-traffic area slightly injuring three people; the ground was possibly unstable and soft being soaked with water from previous heavy rainfall. To report shifting attention to Japan areas that have been affected by heavy snowfall, with meters of snow accumulating on the streets.

Report on data of flowers blooming in the British Isles

Hundreds of native plant species are reported to have bloomed in the British Isles since January 1, at least according to a report based mostly on observations by ordinary people which will later need to be carefully analyzed by botanists to be confirmed. However the data show the impact of global warming with even a single degree increase favoring the flowering of an average of two and a half more plant species. These are alarming figures with consequences for the entire ecosystem, consider the role of pollinating insects that must adapt to the season of activity starting much earlier. Previous studies had also noted how plants in general on a global scale face limited water resources at the vegetative level when water demands increase and how the water balance of many regions around the world is negative.
