Decisive action in Ghana against the Marburg virus

Ghana's health authorities say that without immediate and decisive action the Marburg virus could easily get out of control, this after confirming two cases in the country (in deceased subjects) of this very contagious and Ebola-like virus in laboratories in Senegal. Contact cases identified in Ghana that did not subsequently show symptoms were isolated; this is the second Marburg outbreak in West Africa after the one in Guinea last year. To report changing the subject but remaining on health issues that in Italy are over one hundred and seventy thousand victims of the SARS-CoV-2 virus since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, then lately over one hundred and twenty thousand infections have been monitored in one day and one hundred and seventy-six victims due mainly to the high contagiousness of the Omicron BA.5 variant.

Millions of children without basic vaccinations

As a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic that has put a strain on the proper functioning of health systems, about twenty-five million children in the world would not have received the so-called basic life-saving vaccinations last year (two million more than in 2020), bringing vaccination coverage to very low levels that have not been seen since the beginning of the century. It was thought that after the first year of the pandemic it was possible to better organize vaccination campaigns for children, but the situation has been worsening as happened in Africa for measles cases that have grown by up to four hundred percent. To be reported by changing the subject but remaining on health issues cases of Indian variant "Centaurus" of the SARS-CoV-2 virus identified in Great Britain, it seems to be very contagious even if the vaccines would remain effective in avoiding deaths.

Quarantine nCov for millions of people in China

The Chinese health authorities would have promoted a new initiative to track cases of positivity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, there is talk of tens of millions of people in quarantine with inevitable complaints of those who are again forced to a kind of confinement with home delivery of food (for the well-known zero Covid strategy adopted by the country). It is feared for the spread of the subvariant Omicron BA.5.2 very contagious and that tends to bypass the defenses of the immune system. Of note is the sequencing in Great Britain and Germany of a new Omicron subvariant called BA.2.75 because it is similar to BA.2 which, however, has some small specific differences that could make it even more immune elusive and therefore able to reinfect people who have already come into contact with the virus as well as lowering the percentage of vaccination effectiveness.

Attention in Italy and Europe to nCov wave

The trend of Covid infections in Italy would have monitored a doubling of cases in a week with peaks yesterday of over eighty-three thousand seven hundred infections in one day and international health organizations warn that throughout Europe this summer there will be strong circulation of the virus (recently almost five hundred thousand cases a day considering that at the end of May there were one hundred and fifty thousand). Many people are tired of wearing a mask and taking distancing measures, but the SARS-CoV-2 virus even in the Omicron BA.5 subvariant is more contagious than other variants of the past although perhaps less aggressive; therefore to prevent the epidemic from spreading uncontrollably without barriers and fences it is advisable to protect oneself appropriately. The virus will not go away simply because we ignore it and indeed it could vary again, then individuals with weakened immune systems always remain at risk.

Research on mpox and long Covid cases contagion

Groups defined as potentially at risk if infected as pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems and children could be more affected by the mpox virus (monkeypox), at least according to statements by international health organizations that warn that infections probably occur more easily in these groups from one person to another. Three thousand four hundred cases of contagion have been monitored in the world since May with one victim, but Europe is the epicenter of the infection and in particular Great Britain even if for the moment a global emergency has not been declared. As for the cases of so-called long Covid it seems that using functional magnetic resonance imaging MRI by inhaling xenon gas to patients it is possible in real time to see what is happening in the lungs and proceed with any targeted treatments.

Increased attention in Italy for nCov wave

The Italian health authorities warn that the levels of positivity in the SARS-CoV-2 virus infections monitored have returned to winter levels, despite the tendency usually to a lower spread with summer temperatures in previous years, but the Omicron BA.5 subvariant of the virus could play a role since although perhaps less aggressive it has well adapted to live with the population; then the lower use of masks indoors and a decline in general of healthy practices useful to protect against possible infections. It must be remembered that the consequences of a Covid infection can be systemic affecting all organs and in some cases with a fatal outcome, especially for people with weakened immune systems or with long-lasting side effects, so the level of attention should be maintained high.

Doses of mpox vaccine purchased in Europe

About one hundred and ten thousand doses of monkeypox vaccine (Mpox) should soon be purchased by European health authorities to be administered by the end of June, since Europe would confirm itself as the area of the world most affected by the virus with over nine hundred confirmed cases of contagion (but it is hypothesized that there may be many more and that the infections run under track). There is talk of a real risk that this zoonosis will become endemic in other countries in addition to some Africans; in fact, more the virus circulates more it tends to expand, so care must be taken to monitor any infections. It should be noted by changing the subject but remaining on healthy issues that a study indicates how the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is responsible for lower percentages of cases of the so-called long Covid, in practice characterized by prolonged fatigue and a kind of mental "fog".

Possibly real risk for monkeypox

After the monitored cases of monkeypox have exceeded a thousand in the world in the confirmations carried out in the laboratories, world health organizations say that the risk of this zoonosis becoming endemic in other countries in addition to some Africans is real; but at the same time there would be no need for mass vaccinations since there are no victims connected to the various outbreaks that have occurred. Symptoms of the disease are high fever, inflammation of the lymph nodes and blisters on the skin that become pustules; then there is concern in particular for vulnerable groups including pregnant women and children. In the few countries where the vaccine is available it is advisable to protect people who may be exposed to the virus with health personnel, however the "classic" smallpox vaccine can be used with high effectiveness.

Combination mRNA vaccine against Omicron variant

Preliminary studies carried out by a manufacturer of one of the main mRNA vaccines by combining in a booster dose of the original SARS-CoV-2 formulation with a new one target against the Omicron variant of the virus would have shown an increase in antibodies useful for the defense of the immune system, compared to what happens if a booster with a previous formulation is used. Since the Omicron variant has shown in some cases to be able to circumvent the protection given by vaccines according to some it is appropriate to proceed with an update of the original formulation that is still based on the first Covid-19 genetic sequencing; then another well-known company (of the main mRNA vaccine generally administered) is also studying a so-called bivalent vaccine on whose results the relative data are expected by the end of the month.

Global food shortage comparable to pandemic

If the world's populations do not have the opportunity to obtain sufficient food, they run the risk not only of an increased number of victims due to famine, but also of getting sick more easily due to malnutrition so much so that according to some researchers the threat is comparable to that posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. We should prepare to help people who will become vulnerable due to food shortages or rising costs to ensure a balanced diet (and at the same time in rich countries by giving up meat which is an unhealthy and unsustainable food for the planet). To be reported by changing the subject but remaining on healthy issues the spread of infections in Portugal of the subvariant Omicron BA.5 of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, probably very contagious and able to reinfect individuals already come into contact with the pandemic virus.
