Thirty years after the tragedy of Chernobyl

Due to a series of mistakes made by engineers during a safety testing performed thirty years ago on the Chernobyl nuclear plant the reactor number four exploded, releasing a radioactive cloud that spread over the whole Europe and the radionuclides driven by the wind reached different areas of the planet at a great distance from the plant. It is estimated that over half a million people died, but it is difficult to calculate the victims relate to the serious accident which initially was not denounced by the authorities and there are also doubts about the "official version" provided about what happened. Really harsh working conditions who was forced to build the large concrete sarcophagus that now later decades has greatly deteriorated and the new cover under construction next to the plant that will be slid over the reactors should be ready for the next year.

Accident in a petrochemical plant in Mexico

Would be three the victims and dozens injured due to an explosion that involved a petrochemical plant at Coatzacoalcos in Mexico in the State of Veracruz, then following the serious accident has released a toxic cloud that according to the authorities is dissipating rapidly and then losing the toxic effects, but schools of the area will remain closed. Some have said that the explosion was really strong and several areas close to the plant were evacuated whereas over one hundred people have been hospitalized. Moving the focus to another scenario it is worth noting that in Italy are conducting surveys to understand the causes of an oil spill from a pipeline near Genoa in the Polcevera river that caused damage to the ecosystem and inconvenience to the people; it seems that there may have been a mistake during pumping operations.

Fifth anniversary of the Fukushima disaster

Five years after the nuclear accident in Fukushima despite has been made important progress in setting up the atomic plant the situation remains of security risk both for the environment since it lacks a cover type sarcophagus, both for the population because of radioactive leaks that technicians fail to control; then compounding the picture has recently received the news that the plant operator has admitted he hid for two months the initial meltdown (over fifty percent after three days) in active reactors affected by the tsunami. From data obtained on the disaster some argue that the damage could be much greater than that stated in particular as regards the losses at sea of radioactive coolant, but despite this and protests of the population the authorities have decided to reactivate some reactors in the country to compensate the energy deficit.

Brazil grapples with ecological and health problems

For cause of one of the worst environmental disasters that struck Brazil on November 5 when a dam containing toxic sludge landslide in the State of Minas Gerais will take decades according to experts before the region Rio Doce will return to normal as the watercourse appears in poor ecological conditions, while remaining very difficult the lives of those who live in the vast disaster zone; moreover measures taken after the serious industrial accident were inadequate and some have denounced the attempt to minimize the extent of the affair. Not better than the situation with regard to the health problems related to rapid spread of Zika virus as much that was declared a state of emergency, but now many countries are on alert and are trying to develop tests and diagnostics systems to identify the virus in pregnant women for risk of microcephaly in unborn children.

Not of natural origin earthquake in North Korea

In an area of the underground of the North Korea already used previously for other experiments of nuclear weapons would be recorded an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 evidently not of natural origin and therefore resulted in protests by various governments also because violates international regulations regarding these tests, really questionable especially if done at the beginning of a new year. From how to propagate seismic waves caused by the explosion according to experts is possible understand the type of test performed, which perhaps is different and less powerful from that stated by the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Korea, however it seems that the earthquake was felt clearly even in China. Keep in mind that after World War II, Korea was divided into two States (rather bellicose) representing the interests of the two superpowers winners of the conflict.

More safety in China for construction debris

Following the landslide of a large mass of construction debris accumulated for the past two years by big trucks and probably become unstable that swept an entire industrial village in the Guangming district in Shenzhen, causing at least two victims, sixteen injured, with dozens of missing, the authorities have decided to monitor the safety of seven other construction waste dumps in the city, while seems the rains as cause of the landslide defined by an expert as of proportions not seen in thirty years of work and muddy appearance. Rescue teams are engaged in a race against time to save some survivor buried among the rubble of collapsed buildings (one survivor) by using a large number of special vehicles, then geologists have injected nitrogen to prevent further explosions in the stretch of the great gas pipelines affected by the landslide that also disrupted the flow to Hong Kong.

Landslide of toxic mud from a Brazil mine

A stream consisting of incoherent materials and toxic mud from the debris of an iron mine in the city of Mariana located in Minas Gerais State of Brazil would have buried the houses causing at least seventeen victims, while rescuers are trying with difficulty under the toxic material about forty missing whereas there is little chance of survival for those trapped by this type of material. It is estimated that there may be more than two thousand people hit by the landslide that continues to advance towards neighbours cities and it is estimated that rises the number of missing. The cause of the accident seems to be due to the rupture of two dams of the complex mine extraction and subsequent spillage of toxic red mud mixed with water, also evacuated the inhabitants of the Valley with concerns about the environmental impact.

Lot of toxic foam in Bangalore in India

The population of Bangalore in India has doubled in twenty years without the purifiers have been adjusted as a result of the artificial lakes of the periphery of this great technological city became some sort of toxic slurry dumps and in particular the Bellandur Lake, over three and a half kilometres square located at the base of this chain of lakes, has been measured high levels of toxic pollutants so that contact with the skin for a few seconds will cause irritation. Foam is released by the toxic slurry and sometimes swells and reaches the streets making dangerous the driving, then the population living near the lake complains about headache and other health problems in addition to skin irritations and also occurred due to high concentrations on the surface of flammable chemicals that the lake water has released flames burning for three days.

Security issues for pilgrimages to the Mecca

At least seven hundred and seventeen victims and more than eight hundred wounded reoccurs the problem for pilgrimages to the Mecca just two weeks away from the serious accident where a large crane fell on pilgrims causing over one hundred deaths; this time during the feast of the sacrifice in Mina (five kilometers from Mecca), perhaps because of the closure of two steps or for a control, the flow of thousands of Muslim faithful that should throw a stone at symbolically against a boulder has been interrupted causing an inexplicable crowd for religious events that ended up crushing the pilgrims. In 2006 and in 2004 were already similar incidents with hundreds of victims during the same ritual, but the worst happened in 1990 with over fourteen hundred pilgrims suffocated in a tunnel at the Mecca, highlighting overall organizational limits and proper management of the flow of the faithful.

A crane overwhelms pilgrims to Mecca

Due to the strong wind and rain a large crane fell on the Grand Mosque in Mecca, causing one hundred and seven victims and more than two hundred and thirty wounded among the many pilgrims visiting the holy place for the usual annual religious celebrations which attract Muslims faithful from around the world, last week in the Arabian peninsula (as well as in Lebanon) there have been also strong sand storms. The authorities had planned to expand the area of four hundred thousand square meters so can accommodate more than two million people whereas in 2012 more than three million people went to the so-called Hajj pilgrimage with adoration of the Kaaba by turning seven times in a circle around a black cube. In this type of events often happen serious accidents and veritable tragedies as happened in 2006, when they counted almost three hundred and fifty victims.
