Record CO2 Levels for 2024 and a vicious cycle
A combination of continued emissions from fossil fuels and a reduction in what is absorbed by forests, oceans, and other natural resources for carbon dioxide capture has led to record CO2 levels in the atmosphere in 2024 (since such data began being recorded in 1957), according to a report by international agencies. The report highlights how the average annual increase rose from 2.4 parts per million per year in the decade from 2011 to 2020 to 3.5 ppm from 2023 to 2024. The consequences of humanity's reckless behavior and unrestrained consumption of fossil fuels have resulted in increasingly extreme climatic events, disturbing the delicate carbon cycle and creating a self-reinforcing vicious cycle; therefore it is urgent to find effective solutions to reverse this trend.

A law regulating chatbots in California
Operators of AI-based chatbots will be required to regulate them to safeguard interactions with users, at least according to the intentions of a law enacted in California; as recently online users have increasingly been using these artificial dialogue systems to look for accurate information despite the growing misinformation associated with these chatbots. There have been definitely unpleasant incidents involving young people whose attention was caught by generative AI, and therefore there is an effort to regulate chatbots so that they cannot interact with children or vulnerable individuals to induce them to extreme actions; consequently chatbot operators will need to adopt safety measures and provide a pathway that helps address potential tragedies and harm to users.

Methane escaping from cracks in the Antarctic
Large quantities of methane, a greenhouse gas eighty times more potent (in the first twenty years in the atmosphere) than carbon dioxide in terms of climate warming potential, escape in bubbles from cracks on the Antarctic seabed, at least according to recent observations in specific areas. These observations suggest that predictions regarding global warming may have been underestimated, although little is still known about how much methane actually reaches the atmosphere and how much is consumed by microbes living on the ocean floor; there could also be an impact on marine life. World capitals struggling with water scarcity
Climate change is rapidly depleting the water reserves of many world capitals, for example in Athens in Greece it is believed that water will only be sufficient for one year due to prolonged drought and increased consumption and in the future it will be necessary to build desalination plants; meanwhile in Tehran in Iran some have discussed moving the capital because of the critical issues caused by the region's water scarcity. In Indonesia satellite images have reportedly shown that the area chosen to host the future new capital has limited water resources; moreover, there is controversy in the country over deforestation plans decided by the authorities, which risk depleting the area of water. Eating habits are destabilizing the planet
Almost a third of greenhouse gas emissions come from food, at least according to one study which highlights key factors such as the environmentally harmful role of methane released by cattle, deforestation to make room for crops and the use of fossil energy for fertilizer production. Moreover, even if we stopped burning fossil fuels our eating habits tend to push global temperatures above the set limit of one and a half degrees Celsius of warming. The harmful impact includes loss of biodiversity, soil degradation, water scarcity, and pollution from fertilizers, resulting in an overall alarming situation. As for the dietary regime to follow it is recommended to eat fruits and vegetables with limited consumption of meat and fish, which would also help prevent fifteen million premature deaths.

Investigation on deepfake videos on social media platforms
A nonprofit organization reportedly identified over sixty deepfake videos on well-known social media platforms, primarily targeting the seniors, promoting fake government spending cards and healthcare payment, reaching tens of thousands of platform users and even using the U.S. faces of well-known personalities. The phenomenon of deepfakes is generally increasing worldwide and it appears that in the so-called dark web, these videos, created using generative artificial intelligence that was once very expensive can now be ordered at low cost. Another issue to highlight is the intent to use, for example, fake actors in videos driven by artificial intelligence with a high degree of realism, following a more or less successful series of presenters, then voices and music of artificial singers, in addition to texts of all kinds and from every cultural sector.

Acidity in the seas above the safety level
Exceeding the safety level of acidity in the seas can weaken the ability to support life and human development itself, considering the billions of people who depend on them, at least according to a study by researchers who emphasize that acidification not only threatens fishing-related activities but also reduces the oceans' ability to absorb carbon dioxide and thus mitigate climate warming. New increasingly challenges to protect the health
The challenges in trying to protect health are becoming increasingly demanding; in fact, in addition to the usual pollution, with recent studies showing how an individual is exposed to the harmful effects of indiscriminate fossil fuel use from conception to death, there is also the increased risk to the cardiovascular system due to inhalation of fine particulate matter released by large fires that are often consuming forests around the world, then heatwaves further worsen the situation. The latest challenge is represented by artificial intelligence, but in this last case much depends on how it will be used although even just hearing about viruses designed using machine computing capabilities for "health" purposes (in cases of antibiotic resistance) or medicines formulated with artificial intelligence to address potential threats is concerning.

China intends to reduce pollutant emissions
The Chinese authorities have reportedly stated that they want to reduce pollutant emissions with a plan to enhance electric power production capacity, using wind technologies and solar panels, by six times compared to the levels of 2020 within the next ten years in order to support domestic energy demand by over thirty percent. These initiatives seem to be perhaps planned in response to denialist attitudes regarding climate change from other major global powers (which are not very environmentally friendly), but China alone accounts for about thirty-three percent of pollutant global emissions, and some have long argued that its renewable energy supply chain is not very sustainable; moreover, the initiatives taken to reduce pollution through industrial restructuring by relocating emissions to other countries are indeed questionable.

Risk that Mediterranean may be invaded by toxic fish
It is possible to track marine species through accurate computational models that predict the risk, for example that two species in particular—one highly toxic silver type fish and the voracious lion fish—could lead to a concerning biological invasion in areas of the Mediterranean, at least according to a study developed in collaboration with researchers in Greece, Denmark, and Turkey, which emphasizes that this method is not limited to a local scale and thus applied to the entire Mediterranean and demonstrating the reality of climate change. This is a threat that is becoming increasingly immediate and linked to sea temperature and salinity, two critical factors that monitored like a sort of figurative radar can predict where invasive species will appear. It is worth noting that recently some have reported increasingly frequent marine heatwaves with unusual durations in the Mediterranean.

Protection of marine biodiversity in the high seas
After the adhesion of Morocco and Sierra Leone, it has been possible to reach the threshold of sixty ratifications of a treaty that provides for the protection of marine biodiversity in the high seas and is expected to become law in 2026. According to environmentalists achieving these protection goals for biodiversity areas in oceans around the world going beyond the exclusive economic zones as defined by various countries is crucial for the safeguarding of marine ecosystems. It is estimated that half of the world's oxygen is produced by the oceans and is therefore essential for facing climate change thanks to an ecosystem made up of aquatic plants and marine creatures threatened by pollution, overfishing, and mineral resources on the seabed.

New estimates on recent heat victims in Europe
The high temperatures during the summer, with a series of heatwaves from Italy to Germany and France, where temperatures exceeded forty-six degrees Celsius in Spain and Portugal, may have caused sixteen thousand five hundred victims in Europe; researchers who focused on over eight hundred and fifty urban areas recorded temperatures 3.6 degrees higher from June to August due to climate change, but this represents only a third of the population so the death toll is certainly higher. With the heat the heart struggles to pump blood and the elderly sweat less with reduced ability to regulate their temperature; other studies estimate more than sixty thousand total deaths in 2022 and forty-seven thousand in 2023, emphasizing how Europe has become an example of the extreme effects of climate change with significant consequences on activities and especially in the tourist sector.

Doubts about the impact of red fire retardants
Using red retardants from planes by spreading them over fires is considered a crucial strategy to fight fires, but some raise doubts about their real impact on the environment, especially concerning aquatic ecosystems; in fact, their exact chemical composition is not known although they effectively work by depriving oxygen that fuels the flames. Once spread their red liquid covers everything with a reddish haze, ground, trees, roofs, and if it reaches streams and rivers, the water turns red; it is generally thought that they may be safe for people and the environment even though there are not many studies on the subject, but for example there are restrictions on their use near waterways because they contain ammonia and phosphates that can be harmful to the aquatic ecosystem, affecting fish and amphibians, and algae can proliferate.

Study on emissions from oil and cement industries
The extreme effects of many heat waves could be directly linked to emissions from oil, coal, and cement industries; at least according to a study that highlights how a quarter of the more than two hundred heat waves that have occurred during this century would have been impossible without anthropogenic warming. It is estimated that the exploitation of fossil fuels by one hundred eighty major global polluters has contributed to about half of the increase in the intensity of heat waves since pre-industrial times. In areas of the Global South such as Africa and Latin America many heat waves are not recorded and are absent from the archives used for calculations, so the study results are likely underestimated and the real scale and consequences of these events are greater.

The use of these plants was suggested because merely reducing emissions was not enough to meet the set goals and that other technologies needed to be utilized, but CCS evidently functions inadequately without considering that they consume an enormous amount of energy in addition to being very expensive; then they could be an excuse to continue exploiting fossil fuels instead of investing in renewables and sustainable.

Unstable equilibrium with artificial intelligence

Food shortages in the Gaza Strip and Darfur
According to international organizations the evacuation of the population from the city of Gaza due to the conflict that has affected the area for decades could cause severe food shortages as well as shortages of shelter and medical support more so than evacuations that took place in other parts of the Gaza Strip. Previously there had been protests regarding how the distribution of food and humanitarian aid was organized with people including children killed while trying to obtain some food and in the case of the evacuation of Gaza City the situation can only be much worse. As for Darfur in Sudan also due to military conflicts there have been reports of severe food and water shortages for a year particularly in the city of El-Fasher (the largest inhabited center in western Darfur) with people dying of hunger, then there are fears of cholera outbreaks.

Weather alerts for bad weather in Greece and Italy
Strong thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail are expected in the northwestern regions of Greece, at least according to weather forecasts that warn that after a drop in temperatures due to the bad weather, there will be a quick return to strong solar radiation and temperatures could even reach forty degrees Celsius. In Italy the alert seems to be especially for Lombardy region where they are still dealing with the damage caused by a tornadoes (such as roofs torn off, a collapsed house, a devastated solar field, some cases of flooding, hailstorms); there is also a warning for areas in Tuscany region. To report changing the subject but still on natural issues the warning from international organizations regarding the insufficient progress in ensuring universal access to water, with over two million people lacking access to drinking water.

Floods in Pakistan and Yemen
Due to unusually intense monsoon rains in Pakistan over two hundred thousand people are reported to be evacuated in vast areas of Punjab affected by torrential rainfall and resulting landslides and floods. Some buildings have collapsed due to overflowing rivers and authorities have sent aid to monitor the situation. Hundreds of victims were reported in August due to a particularly severe monsoon season, and some observed that climate change is making these weather events less controllable and manageable. Regarding Yemen severe floods are affecting hundreds of thousands of people, including the city of Aden in the south of the country, with some suburbs partially submerged due to torrential rains, houses and shops inundated with water, causing significant hardships for the population.

Over a million hectares burned in Europe
It is estimated that over a million hectares of vegetation-covered land have gone up in smoke in Europe this year due to wildfires, an area figuratively larger than Cyprus and the largest since monitoring of such data began in 2006. Spain and Portugal have been the most affected countries accounting for about two-thirds of the total, with ongoing wildfires still reported in Spain; the country also recorded sixteen days of record temperatures that fueled the blazes. To report shifting focus to Japan that with ten days of temperatures of thirty-five degrees Celsius and above in Tokyo have marked an unhealthy record for the great metropolis, while a heat wave is also affecting British Columbia in Canada and particularly the town of Lytton and the community of Fraser Canyon with record temperatures.

A typhoon causes flooding in Vietnam
There would be three victims and ten injured in Vietnam due to the typhoon called "Kajiki" which also flooded the streets of Hanoi, it is reported that seven thousand houses were damaged, many rice crops were flooded and tens of thousands of trees fell, many the areas left without electricity supply. Before the strong vortex arrived authorities had evacuated hundreds of thousands of people and residents for example in the central northern regions of the country had prepared for the impact of strong winds and heavy rains by reinforcing the security of doors and windows of their homes. This typhoon is the fifth storm to affect the East Vietnam Sea this year and before reaching the country it had battered the coasts south of Hainan Island in China forcing the closure of businesses and the suspension of public transport in the city of Sanya on the island.

Multiple uncontrolled fires in Canada
Authorities are said to have planned extensive evacuation orders for residents of Nova Scotia affected by the Long Lake fire in Annapolis County, which continues to strengthen due to strong winds and high temperatures. This is described as an extreme event affecting roads and other communities; firefighters' efforts are thwarted by gusts of wind that fuel the flames. Evacuation orders are also in place for residents of New Brunswick with twenty active fires three of which are out of control. Shifting the focus to Italy to report that along the coast between Cervia and Rimini in Emilia Romagna region a type of hurricane (supercell) has uprooted many maritime pines and damaged beach establishments, causing flooding and various inconveniences, such as trees falling on cars and blocking roads.

A storm lashes the Cape Verde Islands in the Atlantic
There would be at least nine victims and hundreds of people forced to leave their homes in Cape Verde (islands located off the west coast of Africa) due to a tropical storm and subsequent flooding that have turned roads into rivers; there are also reports of landslides that have destroyed important infrastructure. Restoration operations are underway, but hundreds of families have lost their homes and livelihoods, so there are concerns about how they will survive. To report changing the subject but remaining on environmental issues that international organizations report that heatwaves are increasingly threatening work, especially in agriculture, construction, and fishing; it is said that two billion four hundred thousand people are affected, then injuries linked to high temperatures and a decline in production capacities.

Excessive demand for tropical wood in Indonesia
To manufacture recreational vehicles especially in the United States woods are used that cause deforestation in Kalimantan in Indonesia, at least according to an environmentalist investigation into this type of entertainment industry. In Kalimantan there are orangutans, long-nosed monkeys, leopards, macaques, flying foxes-bats and the smallest rhinos on the planet; thus, their habitat is threatened. Indonesia is a country that besides suffering from the problem of deforestation, apparently plans to allocate more funds for fossil fuels and coal than for renewable energy in its 2026 budget. It is worth mentioning changing the subject but remaining on nature-related themes the demonstrations in Spain in Ourense for forest protection since many devastating wildfires are still active in the country.

Excessive tourist presence in Antarctica
It is estimated that the number of tourists visiting Antarctica each year has increased from twenty thousand to one hundred twenty thousand over two decades, but this has significantly raised the pollutants released into the environment from the combustion of petroleum derivatives that power ships, airplanes, vehicles, and support infrastructures; the concentration of fine particles containing heavy metals (such as nickel, zinc, copper, and lead) would be ten times higher than it was forty years ago. Snow melts on the white continent much faster due to the fine polluting particles, to the extent that a single tourist can contribute to the melting of up to one hundred tons of snow, and this could lead to potentially irreversible climate changes driven by climate change, with ocean levels rising by meters, resulting in consequences deemed truly disastrous for generations.

Unprecedented situation in Spain regarding wildfires
According to Spanish authorities the situation concerning wildfires is unprecedented in the last twenty years, this is attributed to a combination of factors such as the heatwave that has been affecting the country for some time (with peaks of up to forty-five degrees Celsius) and strong winds, all exacerbated by climate change. It is estimated that almost three hundred and fifty thousand hectares of vegetation have gone up in smoke, an area figuratively comparable to the size of the island of Mallorca, with casualties, damage, and complaints from some about the disruption of part of the Camino de Santiago while high flames in some areas continue to engage firefighters. For many European countries it has been quite a disastrous wildfire season; in Portugal around two hundred and sixteen thousand hectares of vegetation have been affected by the blazes, and in France following a major fire in Aude new intervention planning is being proposed for such cases.

A hurricane strikes Puerto Rico
The category four hurricane called "Erin" has battered Puerto Rico with torrential rainfall and strong wind gusts causing flooding and disruptions, it is then quickly approaching the Bahamas in the Caribbean (which has already been affected by heavy rain and wind along with a wide area in the North Atlantic) and the trajectory of the strong vortex according to weather forecasts, could get closer to the coasts of the United States up to Canada, possibly strengthening slightly at first but gradually weakening afterwards. It is worth mentioning changing the subject but remaining on natural themes that a violent storm in southern Spain at a beach near Granada has damaged structures, uprooted trees and required the rescue of five people on boats pushed offshore, while devastating wildfires continue to ravage the country fueled by climate change.

Torrential rainfalls in Pakistan
There would be at least three hundred and forty-four victims and over one hundred and fifty missing in northwestern Pakistan due to intense monsoon rains and subsequent floods and landslides, the authorities have sent thousands of rescuers who are searching for the missing by digging through houses buried by large masses of landslide debris; streams of water and mud have also swept away cars and much debris. To report changing the subject but remaining on naturalistic themes the significant damage to vegetation in Spain in the vast areas affected by fires fueled by gusts of wind and one of the longest heat waves ever recorded in Europe since monitoring this type of data began, there are reports of victims and injuries, with firefighters severely burned while trying to tackle the flames near Ourense in the northwestern region of Galicia.

Accelerated plasticization of the planet
Given that at a recent conference in Geneva in Switzerland where a plan was to be decided to reduce plastic production there was widespread confusion among the participants and the plan was adrift it is clear that the direction towards a "plasticization of the planet" appears to be increasingly accelerated. It is estimated that with the current trend of plastic production based on fossil fuel consumption production will triple by 2060 reaching about one billion two hundred million tons per year, with one billion tons dumped into the environment risking entering the food chain. It is evident that if we consume microplastics and even breathe them the organic tissues will be exposed to inflammation as has long been shown in animals along with a whole series of side effects for which there are now even studies.

Alert for record floods in Alaska
Authorities in Alaska have declared a maximum level alert for the danger of flooding in the capital Juneau due to the sudden thermal collapse of the Mendenhall Glacier, located about nineteen kilometers from the city and a popular tourist destination, resulting in the release of large amounts of water. The flooding has already begun due to heavy rainfall and melted snow accumulating in the basin flowing into Mendenhall Lake and River; it is reported that this phenomenon has been occurring every year since 2011 due to climate change, with records set in 2023 and 2024, but last year the flooding reached almost five meters, damaging around three hundred homes. To report changing the subject but remaining on environmental themes the local state of emergency for the community of Vancouver Island in Canada due to a rapidly advancing of a fire.

Landslide in a village of Darfur in Sudan
There would be over a thousand victims from a landslide that swept through a village in western Sudan in the Darfur region, being described as one of the most severe disasters in terms of casualties in the recent history of this African country. It seems that only one person survived after the landslide following days of intense rainfall virtually demolishing the village of Tarasin in the Marrah mountains and international aid is being requested for an extreme event deemed unusual in scale. The volcanic area where the village is located is a world heritage site, with the mountain reaching three thousand meters characterized by a climate marked by low temperatures and heavy rainfall in the surrounding areas, more than nine hundred kilometers west of the capital Khartoum. The landslide occurred in an area accessible only on foot or by animals.

Pirates in jacket and necktie
By now the traditional image of the pirates organizes in groups from corsairs armed of guns and knives to the cingula have yielded the step to the new predator dressed in jacket and necktie that is annoying the web (bandits that unload entire site and they identify the protection keys, steal the symbols, musics..), even with one name of all security that hides the deceit to before the tacking of click.
