Flood evacuations in Hawaii

A river of mud poured into vast areas of the North Shore Oahu community known for the high waves "ridden" by surfers, then the authorities reportedly evacuated more than five thousand five hundred people from an area north of Honolulu where lake like formations appeared with houses and cars partially submerged in what are considered the worst floods in over twenty years (in 2004 for example damage to the Hawaii library is remembered). Due to water-saturated ground from previous heavy rainfall which worsened the situation in what is sometimes described as devastating, authorities are still trying to assess the damage and perhaps hundreds of homes are affected. The Wahiawa Dam twenty-eight kilometers northwest of Honolulu on the island of Oahu considered vulnerable for some time is being monitored for possible failure and interventions are being evaluated.

Risk from drifting gas tanker off the coast of Libya

An ecological disaster is feared due to a large gas tanker that risks sinking possibly off the coast of Libya, this ship has been adrift for some time without a crew on board and at the mercy of the waves loaded with gas that could ignite and hydrocarbons that could pollute the sea; European intervention has been requested also due to the difficulty of the operation and the high costs involved for effective safety measures. To report changing the topic but remaining on natural issues that authorities in Tenerife in the Canary Islands reportedly advised limiting movements as much as possible (with teleworking and maximum caution) due to a storm characterized by strong wind and rain, then recently there was a fatality in the Swiss Alps due to a gondola falling on a cable car because of strong wind gusts along with several other accidents generally occurring in the Alps due to adverse weather conditions.

Bad weather in some regions of Italy

Due to a cyclone heavy rainfall has caused landslides in Calabria region one of which brushed against a building in the province of Cosenza, then some traffic difficulties, particularly on a state road in the province of Vibo Valentia. In Sicily there are reports of heavy rain and gusts of wind causing various damages, while the weather forecast announces cold currents of Siberian origin, strong freezing winds, temperature drops, and possible snowfall even in the central-southern regions. To report changing the topic but remaining on naturalistic themes that at the depths (about six thousand meters) of the Cayman and Anguilla Islands, in the Caribbean Sea in British territory, researchers have identified a coral reef that withstands climate change and is inhabited by species never seen before; since 2023 eighty percent of the corals in the world have been destroyed due to rising temperatures.

A day a fraction of a second longer

Due to the rise in sea levels caused by the melting of ice fueled by global warming, the planet's rotation would be slightly slowed down, is talking about an increase of a tiny fraction of a second almost impossible to notice in everyday life; but the speed at which this phenomenon is occurring according to researchers has never happened in millions of years, then by the end of the century climate change could influence the planet's rotation more than the Moon which has historically been the decisive factor in slowing down Earth's rotation over long periods. To report on a different topic but still related to natural events the arrival of a cyclone in Calabria and Sicily regions with ongoing alerts and heavy snowfall in the Alps in Valle D'Aosta and the province of Varese in Lombardy (with one fatality from related causes).

Freezing rain in some areas of Canada

Areas to the east of Ontario and southwest Quebec have been affected by icy bad weather with freezing rain that has left a very slippery layer on the roads, with reports of disruptions and the closure of many schools; authorities have advised against traveling for example for the residents of Montreal, and in this city about one hundred thousand households have been left without electricity, while forecasts warn of potentially difficult weather conditions for the northern regions. To report on a different topic but still related to natural issues that some researchers warn that in Tehran the consequences of the recent acid rain with oil droplets falling on the metropolis due to a conflict could be serious with long-term impacts on food and water sources; indeed, they are very toxic pollutants also for vegetation and animals.

Heavy rain and wind in Jakarta in Indonesia

Due to intense rainfall a large heap of waste collapsed at Bantar Gebang near Jakarta caused by the long-standing problem of managing the largest site that collects the metropolis' waste, is talk of at least five victims buried in the collapse and four missing; moreover, one victim died due to a falling tree in the city because of strong wind gusts, along with heavy rains causing floods and impassable roads. To report shifting the focus to Italy the danger that the landslide movement in Niscemi in Sicily may continue, at least according to some data monitored through instrumental analysis of the area; the solution seems to be to prevent water infiltration by adopting measures that had already been identified in the past, but apparently nothing concrete has been done, raising questions about the allocated funds.

Heatwaves causing increasing droughts

Climate change fuels linked extreme events such as heatwaves that lead to subsequent sudden droughts which are very harmful to vegetation in all countries of the world, at least according to researchers who highlight that the frequency of these extreme events has risen from about two and a half percent globally per year around 1980 to over sixteen percent in 2023 the last year monitored for the study considering that 2024 and 2025 have been on average very hot years. Sometimes the drought event precedes the heatwave, but apparently the damage is greater if the heatwave occurs first and then the drought; further, there is talk of sudden droughts that do not leave farmers time to prepare properly causing significant damage compared to normal drought events. The maximum impact occurs with heatwaves, droughts and fires together.

Coastal erosion threatens valuable natural architectures

After the collapse of a well-known "postcard tourist" arch on a sea stack on the coast of Salento in Puglia in Italy two weeks ago, the danger of collapses from storm surges now concerns the cliffs along the coast of Ostuni in the Brindisi province, it is a coastline rich in valuable natural architectures considered at geomorphological risk and it is proposed to place breakwaters on the seabed to cushion the impact of the waves on the coast. Coastal erosion is a global problem and for example in Indonesia on the island of Rangsang in the Meranti Islands Regency it had recently been noted that the damage caused to the coast tended to increase due to the north wind when it affected the waves towards the end of last year, with threats to agriculture and severe coastal erosion being reported.

Economic system in Sumatra poorly suited after the floods

When everything functions with stable markets, predictable incomes, and working institutions an economic tissue tends to operate normally, but after the floods in Indonesia in November 2025 some point out that activities in many villages are still paralyzed with inevitable economic consequences; therefore the tax system should be adapted to the conditions, made suitable for recovery and flexible in order to support a range of initiatives such as clearing roads of debris, rebuilding schools and hospitals, repairing irrigation channels and pipelines, allowing normal agricultural practices as well as reinforcing embankments to prevent potential future floods. It is worth noting that with climate change it had long been observed that economic systems need to be adjusted to the new conditions of the global ecosystem.

Snowstorm hits New York and the northeast U.S.

Authorities in New York City which has over eight million residents have reportedly issued a travel ban on the road network (except for those ensuring essential services and emergency operations in the city) due to an incoming snowstorm that will affect large areas of the U.S. northeast. It is estimated that fifty-four million people may be affected, snow has already begun falling and in some areas visibility is reduced; this follows a previous cold weather system that had already caused over one hundred fatalities. To report changing the topic but remaining with natural themes the ecological worsening health of the Mediterranean Sea, with increasingly warmer waters, record levels of microplastics, rising water levels leading to coastal erosion and several beaches having already disappeared.
