Perhaps most creative Neanderthal man of Sapiens

That the Neanderthal man had a greater brain and perhaps even greater creative abilities of the Sapiens man was already known for some time and now comes a rather convincing confirmation of the artistic talents of this distant cousin on the evolutionary plane from paintings, fragments of pigments and painted shells found in a cave in Spain (cueva de los Aviones) which should trace back about to one hundred and fifteen thousand years ago and therefore long before the finds attributes to Sapiens; then this discovery raises the doubt about the real attribution of masterpieces of the past at least as far as those who have devised the artistic techniques used. The Neanderthals lived in Europe and Asia before disappearing (but not genetically in DNA) for causes that still have not yet been sufficiently clarified about forty thousand years ago evidently not because more primitive, less creative and less organized than Sapiens that came from Africa.

Blood test for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's

When we get older the mechanism that prevents protein aggregates from spreading in the brain works a little less well causing over the years an increasingly wider degeneration in the synapses, then this process leaves the biomarkers that according to a study carried out by Japanese and Australian researchers it is possible to detect with a simple blood test; in fact it would remain the trace of two small proteins produced by a precursor of the amyloid protein that only now can be identified thanks to a sophisticated examination that is rather accurate, less invasive and cheaper than the traditional type examinations (but for the treatment is still missing a cure). As far as Parkinson's would suffice to measure the level of caffeine in the blood since people who have this degenerative disease have much lower levels of caffeine in the blood than healthy individuals.

Orcas can say a few words

Repeating some simple words like "hello," "by - by", "one - two", "ah - ha" to an orca trained in a French aquarium the cetacean would have managed to mimic the sounds some at the first attempt others after a dozen attempts, at least according to a joint study carried out by researchers from different countries who would be able to impart the "copy command" to the fourteen-year-old orca called Wikie even though there would be no evidence that it could include for example the meaning of "hello". The ability to this type of vocal imitation is probably something similar to what happens in nature; in fact the observations show that orcas communicate with each other with a variety of dialects. To report by changing argument and moving on to the plant kingdom that Australian researchers would have found in some plants a greater photosynthetic efficiency for the remarkable presence of microscopic channels called plasmodesmata.

Learn from California wildfires

Firefighters committed to dealing with fires in California are burning one after the other the homes affected by the fire front "Thomas" (from the name of the college from which could have sprung the first flame) that widens more and more have stated that was unthinkable a scenario like this in December until a few years ago and that we should pleasure the houses so that they are not easily attacked by fire and this consideration is valid in all areas of the world with similar conditions. After the fire has been circumscribed the fire continues to burn for days and weeks in the houses destroyed because of flammable materials that can with the wind restart and feed the flames, then should pay attention to the type of gardens vegetation around the houses; in fact often happens that after fires plants easily attacked by fire take the place of the original vegetation.

Combination of drugs effective for Alzheimer's

Replicating in vitro the brain tissue of five patients with familial type Alzheimer's and four of sporadic type of Japanese researchers would simulate in both cases the pathological condition of the disease, characterized by the accumulation of plaques of amyloid beta protein, and besides highlighting that there would be a family history they proceeded to test over one thousand two hundred and fifty medications to find a combination of these that might be more effective for the care. In practice the best combination results from the use of molecules already known and used for the treatment of Parkinson's, asthma and epilepsy, which have been used for long periods of time should also be safe. The first data monitored on this new combined treatment would have detected, in vitro only, a reduction of more than thirty percent of the amyloid beta protein plaques.

Braided boats to build the pyramids

In an ancient papyrus dating back to four thousand end five hundred years ago it would have been described by an officer who together with forty skilled workers participated in the construction of the pyramids the ingenious system adopted to erect these huge monumental tombs. In practice they used the summer floods of the Nile to transport the large blocks of stone very close to the construction sites with wooden boats that sailed in canals dug in the direction of small ports and fed by special dams on the river. The braided wooden boats were equipped with holes where passed ropes that allowed to tighten them together with interlocking allowing in this way to load boulders of two and a half tons transporting them with the force of the flow of the current, then once that the boulders were unloaded sails allowed the reverse path with the help of the wind. The specialized workers used for the transport of large blocks lived in dwellings at the construction sites and considered as servants of the state since the construction of the pyramids was an assignment valued as of notable prestige.

Napier's ballistic logarithms

Developing a proposition in the "Arenaria" work of Archimedes, from which it is obtained that the product of two powers of base ten is equal to ten elevated to a power that is the sum of the exponents of the two factors with base ten, John Napier (1550-1617) baron of Merchiston at Edinburgh developed a table of the so-called logarithms [of Burgi ?] useful especially to make the ballistic calculations in a short time and defined for that time remarkable. Left the studies the Scottish mathematician was engaged for the Anglican and Protestant propaganda with various writings; then devoted himself to scientific studies, to the design of war machines and especially to the ballistics, first using sticks as columns of the pythagorean table and then after many years of study passed to make trigonometric calculations and refinements, with the logarithms. Conceived also a calculator machine described in a text of great historical interest.

Evidence of ancient and abundant life on Earth

Probably life on Earth has ancient origins (about five hundred million years after its formation four and a half billion years ago) and contrary to previous assumptions was also abundant, at least according to Japanese and Canadian researchers who took samples of sediments rich in carbon in Labrador, in an area that underwent fewer modifications caused by plate tectonics, finding the geochemical signature resulting from the decomposition of living organisms. In practice the planet could not be inhospitable and with conditions to make life difficult as previously it was supposed to have left so many traces resulting from the accumulation in the water of sediments of graphite. The evidence that traces are of organic origin is obtained from the analysis of the mass of carbon isotopes with graphite samples that tend to be much lighter than those resulting from inorganic aggregations.

Fish intelligence underestimated

With the progress of knowledge on the fish it has been discovered that they are more intelligent than one can think and that for example they are able to recognize each other, to avoid even for years a particular bait and they can also recognise a human face; then they experience stress, fear and pain in addition to having an active social life cooperating in group for the hunt or otherwise to protect themselves in case of danger. Evaluated a time as rather primitive forms of life the fish generally do not enjoy a good reputation from the point of view of their ability to experience emotions and now their fate it is often reduced to be caught with sophisticated methods such as "industrial extraction" or to be bred in large tanks to obtain food for human consumption; so according to some it would be necessary to have greater legal protection like other animals because they are not treated poorly and can enjoy a minimum well-being.

Lost an important book by Bernardino Telesio

For a decaying affair in a palace in Cosenza not properly reported was lost in a fire the original of the opera "De rerum natura iuxta propria principia" by Bernardino Telesio (Cosenza 1509 - 1588) in which the philosopher argues that in order to investigate nature, it is necessary to find the principles on which to base research in the same nature; in fact, being also the man a natural product whose spirit is identifies with that of all living beings has this possibility, sensibility and perception that allows to know. Warm and cold are the principles that the naturalist identifies and who act in opposition to each other, in practice with the heat that comes from the sun that by dilation makes the bodies light and therefore promotes the movement and the cold of the earth that tends in the opposite to condense. From these principles a third would be deduced from the matter as an inert mass without neglecting a cosmic spiritual external intervention.
