Intelligence of children weakened by lead A survey conducted on over five hundred children in the South Island of New Zealand in the city of Dunedin would have shown that in the period between 1970 and 1980, when gasoline was added with the lead (used to lubricate the engine, improve combustion and therefore the performance), children who were exposed to the vehicles exhaust fumes had to have at age thirty-eight an intelligence quotient and a social standing lower than peers who had undergone a minor exposure.
