Forecasts on disturbing climatic models

If the pollutant emissions continue to increase the global surface temperatures could have increased by more than four degrees Celsius by the end of the century with consequent intense heat waves and extremely hot days even in the night, at least according to forecasts made on climatic models by international meteorological organizations that warn as for example Paris could change from an average in the summer months of about twenty-two degrees to twenty-nine degrees and in other cities it calculates six to nine degrees summer temperature fluctuation in more. There could be health and transportation problems, worse air quality in addition to scarcity of water and energy and risk of falling in extreme poverty for large masses of population (if no incisive measures will be taken) so that climate change will be the greatest challenge that humanity will face.

Calculations on the costs of climate change in U.S.

That the economies of the industrialized countries "disposable type" are unstable, unbalanced and unsustainable for the planet is not new, and now an American research warns that without adopt decisive measures to counteract climate change and reduce the polluting emissions, the country will become poorer, in practice at any minimum increase in temperatures. If the current trend continues (in the worst scenario) there will be a dramatic inequality with a third of the already impoverished counties that they'll see a further decrease in revenue of more than twenty percent. In particular the Gulf Coast could be affected by extreme climatic events with an inevitable increase in migration, tension and violent crimes. Other studies pointed out that there have been no structured and funded organisations in America to contrast those of climate change skeptics.

Population growth in India and Africa

According to calculations and forecasts of the world population that of India within about seven years will exceed in number that of China; moreover Nigeria with the current growth rate will become before 2050 the third most populated country in the world, thus receding the United States, then when it comes to Europe are expecting a decline in the population in the coming decades. It is assumed that Africa for its rapid growth rate in general is destined to be the area of origin of more than half of the world's population by 2050; in fact women have a fertility rate beyond triple highest of European women. As regards the world population it is estimated that it will reach the eight billion and six hundred million individuals in 2030, the nine billion and eight hundred million in 2050 and eleven billion and two hundred million in 2100 with a growth of eighty million individuals per year.

A tree that always tilts towards the equator

Measuring in eighteen different regions of five continents the inclination of two hundred and fifty-six pine trees (Cook pine varieties originating of the New Caledonia) the researchers would have found that it tends to always tilts towards the equator with an average inclination of about eight degrees, twice that of the Pisa tower; moreover the more trees are far from the equator the more they tilts, even checking a case of inclination of forty degrees in the south of Australia. No other plant would present these characteristics and is try to give an explanation to the phenomenon by formulating various assumptions and however it means that the plants adapt to the environment in an unknown way. Another study indicated some cells in the seeds of plants that function in the same way as those of the brain to identify the right period in which to germinate the seed that is essential for the proper development and survival of the plant.

A reminder of the Italy anti-mafia pool

Twenty-five years from the day when he was commemorated by the death of Falcone, his wife, the escort in the attack of Capaci and after a few months the death of Borsellino some have accused the administrative organs of the time and in particular the Superior Council of the judiciary to have in practice decided the fate of Giovanni Falcone dismembering the anti-mafia pool and allowing in this way that criminal organizations could ramp up undisturbed in the country (so much so that now even in the north of Italy is speaks of structural mafia and no more infiltrations). Investigating the movements of money was the investigative method used by the anti-mafia pool remained famous and also used abroad; but the so-called "refined minds" that acted from a higher level of control, being able to count on the majority of the members who composed them, succeeded in neutralizing the investigations to sand them, opposing obstacles or moving the acts.

Overcome in a new way the fear of spiders

There are many people who are afraid of spiders and therapists teach usually to face the so-called arachnophobia almost encouraging to deal with it; but British researchers have devised a new method using the experience about key elements of the environment doing sit patients in front of a computer screen and giving them the opportunity to vary the distance of the spiders, more or less close, since it is important to be able to control their feelings of fear to try and improve the health and well being. In practice patients learned in various stages to approach virtually to spiders with computer simulation, then by statements on real life two weeks later showed that despite the fear managed to avoid a little less the spiders. This simple technique could be used effectively to treat other types of very common phobias.

Intelligence of children weakened by lead

A survey conducted on over five hundred children in the South Island of New Zealand in the city of Dunedin would have shown that in the period between 1970 and 1980, when gasoline was added with the lead (used to lubricate the engine, improve combustion and therefore the performance), children who were exposed to the vehicles exhaust fumes had to have at age thirty-eight an intelligence quotient and a social standing lower than peers who had undergone a minor exposure. In 1984 when blood collection was made to children in Dunedin just a level above thirty-five micrograms of lead per deciliter of blood carried to an alert to medical staff, a very large amount compared to five to ten micrograms which later were starting the alert for preventive controls. In 1996 the petrol with lead was banned in New Zealand.

Confirmation that birds derived from dinosaurs

Examining the fossil from one hundred twenty-five and one hundred forty-five million years ago found in China and belonging to a bird exceptionally well preserved, English and Chinese researchers have noted that had a more straighter posture than that of crouched type that can normally observe in birds; in fact the anatomy of cartilages and tendons would show that primitive birds had an ankle complied with so as to make possible movements which can be considered as intermediate between those of dinosaurs and modern birds. This fossil of "Confuciusornis" fossilized in volcanic ash has allowed to observe anatomical details up to the molecular level of the tissues and ligaments of the ankle joint confirming the hypothesis that the posture of the birds is derived slowly from that of the dinosaurs. Other studies suggest that some birds may have its own lineage.

Magnetic stimulation to slow Alzheimer's

To try to slow the negative progression of Alzheimer's disease Australians researchers have used a type of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation called "Theta-burst" that has allowed to apply to four brain regions identified for this innovative treatment a shorter chain of high frequency stimuli in three minutes, comparing with other types of similar but less effective treatments that require forty-minute exposure of target areas where communication of nerve cells is hindered by aggregates of protein plaques. In practice better is the communication between cellular connections in the brain, and greater is the amount of information on which our memory will be able to reason. A seventy-eight years old participant to a test stated that she noticed significant improvements in the ability to remember.

Under the Mauritius perhaps an ancient continent

Many theories speculate that there was originally a primeval continent called Gondwana whose central part is now the Africa from which came off for the other continents with drift movements and now South African researchers went looking for zircons in Mauritius to prove that are granite fragments belonging to a super-continent including Madagascar, Seychelles and India that they came off once. Most critics have claimed that these zirconia crystals found at the beach may have been transported to Mauritius by the wind, vehicle tyres, shoes of tourists and even bird droppings showing some skepticism to the theory of this new super-continent that researchers have named "Mauritia" citing as proof that while the volcanic rocks on the island date back to about nine million years ago the zircons date from about three billion years ago.
