Global warming as priority for Olympic sports

For both winter and summer Olympic sports global warming should be assessed as a high priority, at least according to the opinion of more than four hundred athletes who complain that increasingly high temperatures are threatening the future of sport. For example for winter sports in addition to increasingly artificial snow (with serious injuries becoming more and more frequent), it must be considered that in summer athletes can often no longer train on glaciers because the conditions of the snowpack do not allow it; instead for summer sports is talk about those who complain of algae proliferation in the water due to the high temperatures that have not allowed training. As regarding the Olympic Games the aim is to cut greenhouse gas emissions by fifty percent by 2030 in line with the Paris agreements on reducing emissions.

Obese in large numbers in the world

Without incisive changes it is estimated that three billion and eight hundred million adults will be obese in fifteen years, at least according to an estimate by researchers who point out that the epidemic of overweight and obesity is seen as a kind of tragedy, then the problem is that adolescents are increasingly overweight or obese with significant repercussions from the point of view of health. According to forecasts for example a third of all obese young people will live in two regions such as North Africa and the Middle East, then Latin America and the Caribbean, but there would be time to intervene to ensure that this does not happen. Generally the world has gone from nine hundred and twenty-nine million obese people in 1990 to two billion and six hundred million in 2021, more than half of overweight and obese people live in just eight countries: China, India, the United States, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Indonesia and Egypt.

Over a billion obese people in the world

Being obese in many countries has become more common than being underweight, including countries considered to low and middle income where malnutrition was often faced, although there are countries where it is really difficult to feed the population, but this kind of obesity epidemic is a decidedly unhealthy condition with an increased risk of numerous health problems. The data was derived from estimates of more than two hundred and twenty million people in over one hundred and ninety countries, and if in the past it was thought that obesity was a problem of the rich now it is argued that it is a global issue. Researchers are particularly worried about children where the percentage of obesity monitored is constantly increasing, while at the same time hundreds of millions do not have enough to eat; in both cases with serious health consequences.

Obesity epidemic to monitor on the planet

It is estimated that some diseases could increase in the world population due to the so-called epidemic of overweight and obesity fueled by unhealthy lifestyles, poor exercise and unbalanced diet; for example in particular the health authorities point out that most cases of type two diabetes could be prevented by preventing individuals from becoming obese and without action the percentages of diabetes found could greatly increase in the coming decades at least considering the data recently examined up to almost ten percent in the world even if are not talking about uniform percentages but with more affected areas. There are fears that health systems already under pressure and in many cases deprived of resources and personnel will struggle to cope with this growing number of diseases and some are talking about promoting anti-obesity plans.

Skiing and ice skating unsustainable sports

The climatic conditions now unfavorable to practice sports such as skiing and ice skating make them decidedly unsustainable for the environment and from an economic point of view; in fact, artificial snow requires large amounts of useful water to be used for other purposes in the mountains in addition to increasingly expensive electricity, then as far as skating is difficult to maintain a layer of ice of sufficient compactness with temperatures above five degrees Celsius and the refrigerant gases that are used to cool the coils placed under the ice are highly climate-altering. Seeing meadows even in winter has become almost the norm in the mountains in the absence of programmed snowmaking so it would be appropriate to have a more ecological attitude of tourism and use skates with wheels instead of skates with blades in the relative facilities.

Get back in shape after quarantine periods

Being able to resume training after a long period of absence of any type of physical activity due to quarantine measures, disease or other impediments caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic can be difficult according to some even on a psychological level, then many have accumulated weight and the desire to lose weight quickly can lead to unhealthy mistakes that end up making the psychological picture of the subject worse in general. Increasing lean mass by affecting fatty mass requires patience and long training times without neglecting a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables as well as appropriate periods of meditation; so it is advisable to start very slowly with heating, muscle stretching, basic and breathing exercises and then gradually evaluate whether to intensify the training.

Correlation between obesity and 19-nCoV risks

Overweight and obese adults would be at a much higher risk of Covid-19 mortality than normoweight people, at least according to the results of an international study that would have found that in countries where the population does not pay much attention to fitness status (with body mass index BMI above healthy limits) the percentage of fatalities due to the virus is ten times higher; then the risk of hospitalization, intensive care and ventilation also increases. From the report on one hundred and sixty countries the risk of mortality falls where people are generally leaner, as is the case for example in Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and South Korea; governments should therefore take more steps to prevent the population from gaining unnecessary weight. It should be noted by changing the topic that Italy has exceeded one hundred thousand victims with over three million infections and is facing a third wave of pandemic.

Exercise during the 19-nCoV pandemic

The new guidelines recommended by international organizations to keep fit during the pandemic provide for adults from at least one hundred and fifty to three hundred minutes of moderate until vigorous exercise per week, including people affected by chronic conditions and disabilities; in fact, being physically active (and trained) is considered a critical parameter for health and well-being as well as lengthening life expectancy. Changing the lifestyle habits and sitting in front of a screen for a long time during the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic can be very harmful to the health, so should get up regularly and do three to four minutes of exercises by heating and stretching the muscles starting with light ones, activating blood circulation, and then gradually switching to the slightly more vigorous ones.

Risk of 19-nCoV complications in obese patients

Researchers had already identified how having diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and respiratory conditions increased the risk of having complications when infected with the Covid-19 coronavirus, and new studies would seem to highlight how being obese is an indicator to be assessed even more carefully especially in patients under sixty years due to severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia that require the use of lung ventilators. This is worrying for example especially in Australia where two/thirds of adults or sixty-seven per cent of the population has a BMI that classifies them as overweight or obese, then apparently the immune system is less reactive in case of obesity due to a state of chronic inflammation, taking into account that it is also more difficult to intube and t do X-ray scans or computerized tomographs in obese patients.

Count the hours spend sitting

Many people spend the day sitting always, basically going from the chair in which they are sitting in front of a computer screen to the one to eat, then to relax, to talk on the phone or to read a book with very negative effects for the health. Researchers also found a correlation between BMI and time sitting (in this case at work) resulting in a decrease in psychophysical well-being; moreover, the body may have a lower sensitivity to the hormone insulin and therefore with increased risk of type two diabetes, not to mention the inevitable pains in the neck, back and legs due to prolonged incorrect posture. Some argue that sitting too much increases the risk of cancer, in addition to cardiovascular diseases and depressions, also due to the lack of vitamin D intake due to low exposure to the sun; then not making movement quickly leads to obesity.
