Influence of the fossil industry on teaching

The resources used for teaching in schools would be wholly or partially based on companies in industries that exploit fossil fuels, at least according to some researchers who point to the conflicts of interest of these companies being responsible for three-quarters of global greenhouse gas emissions. For decades it has been known about the strategies put in place to deny and minimize human-caused global warming, how to reduce the climate crisis that is causing extreme effects on the planet; so we should pay attention to how the funds for the training of students are disbursed and that the companies related to fossil fuels do not produce the material related to environmental science, then another relevant point concerns the impact on the teaching of artificial intelligence.

Whale song with linguistic human similarities

Structural similarities have been found between whale song and human language, at least according to new studies that underline how whales, humpback especially, have something in their song that resembles and with parallels with common language. We are not at the point of being able to understand what these large cetaceans want to express with these prolonged vocalizations but it highlights a complex type of communication. There are also variations over the time because it is a kind of cultural transmission a bit like it happens between men, then analyzing the musical structure you can find the basic elements of a semantic connection. Studies in the past have found what can be called dialects that could distinguish the same species of whales and how these mammals adapted to variations in languages.

States that protect the neural privacy of the mind

Neurotechnology companies are investing increasingly large sums to develop devices capable of interacting with the brain and California, Colorado and Chile have reportedly approved legislation to protect neural privacy. We are talking about a near future in which a wearable device for example triggers an advertisement suitable for satisfying a certain food desire or monitors the actions that are carried out and in the case of a fixed device we also come to hypothesize much more questionable cases. Brain data would be the next frontier of privacy and it is necessary to plan the sector with specific regulations that can protect this fundamental personal good; then it is necessary to take into account whether actions can be influenced by generative artificial intelligence or by applications that exploit neurotechnologies.

Forensic investigations influenced by climate change

Entomologists use data that refer to the larval state of insects to understand what the time of a crime is and other typical characteristics related to the type of insects (a body may have been moved from a different place or moved and dragged even in different urban environments), but climate change can affect these detections making their task more difficult. For example it can happen to have very hot days followed by days with stable weather and then bad weather with cloudbursts and this makes everything more complicated for those who have to calculate schedules or compare reference models, then even if the consequences are generally not drastic still have to adapt to the new parameters dictated by climate change. The research should be adapted according to each specific regional climate including all the supporting surveys.

Questionable artificial imitation of the mind

The groups that have developed the latest versions of generative artificial intelligence have tried to imitate the associative method used by the human mind from synapses with algorithms supported by sophisticated neural networks capable of memorizing and programming themselves automatically; but it's really questionable that what has worked out the natural evolution over hundreds of thousands of years is put into a machine in a few years or decades. If these artificial minds then entered the so-called "control rooms" or controlled the movements of humanoid robots it is difficult to hypothesize what they could do, taking into account for example that according to some the planet was saved by simple people who refused to launch nuclear missiles or managed to power reactors that risked melting down by sacrificing their lives.

Second-stage artificial intelligence

The story of the departure of a group of artificial intelligence developers from one of the main development centers of the sector in the United States, who then almost immediately returned, could be linked according to some to different opinions about the launch of a second phase of generative artificial intelligence based on mathematics even less controllable by humans than the first version. If the first was already questionable due to the danger that its malicious use constitutes in diminishing for example the trust in institutions, weakening social cohesion and threatening "democracies" without neglecting the danger of the end of human civilization and transition to that of humanoids it is obvious that this second version can only greatly increase the level of alert on artificial intelligence and all neural networks in general.

Don't converse with AI

Artificial intelligence has long passed the Turing test and this means that it is difficult to notice that are conversing with a machine instead of with a person if, for example, it is not present in "flesh and blood", so in order not to train artificial intelligence with conversation it is advisable not to use applications with software that learn from what is said. Lately hundreds of researchers have raised the alarm on the future of humanity given the growing danger represented by generative artificial intelligence and that regulations must be established to curb its development, but some argue that it is now like wanting to stop an avalanche with your hands; in fact, after having developed these neural networks for decades it is really difficult to stop them even if in theory it is still possible by disconnecting all the plugs and therefore also widely used applications.

Mindfulness meditation useful against anxiety

Social anxiety and panic attacks are a widespread disorder in the world aggravated in part due to the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, social tensions or financial uncertainties and a study would have shown that mindfulness meditation (a type of meditation that aims to empty the mind by focusing on silence) is more effective than common medicines used to treat states of anxiety and also behavioral therapies based on education. As it is well known for health and mental balance is harmful to think continuously about unpleasant events, so it is useful to take some breaks by emptying the mind of negativity; then in order not to get depressed should try to concentrate in that kind of emotional emptiness that can be found in a prolonged silence.

Cases of mental fog from n-Cov contagion

From the stories of some people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus emerge cases of a kind of mental fog with forgotten appointments, lapses, confused conversations and memory loss that could put in difficulty the people who have to face this lack of clarity in reasoning. To try to recover a minimum of lucidity, for example, it may be appropriate to organize yourself calmly, breathe deeply, recover concentration, positively influence yourself for example with naturalistic images as well as meditation, sleep hygiene, mild physical exercise and stretching. Neurological problems and loss of taste and above all smell have long been reported, with inevitable disorientation; but generally these are passenger disorders that tend to subside a little with time until the return to normal apart from cases of long Covid.

Children's behaviors during the pandemic

The nCoV pandemic has disrupted the lifestyle habits of many families and children in the opinion of some may suffer from behavioral disorders not being able, for example, to take advantage to avoid any infection of useful services for learning in the process of growth such as kindergartens, kindergartens, places of aggregation and leisure with consequences on character development. Apparently it may also happen that children do not remember the time when they could meet someone who did not wear the mask; then we talk about problems that can be linked to states of anxiety, insomnia, speech development issues, little concentration and in some cases tend to gain weight. In general children should not spend too many hours in front of the television and video of an electronic device (computer, tablet, smartphone..) by encouraging manual arts and physical activity.
