Challenges on generative artificial intelligence

What has been defined, with a comparison regarding the early stages of the conquest of space, almost a kind of overtaking between global powers in terms of generative artificial intelligence (on percentages of calculation efficiency and with much lower resources) continues to open questions about how these questionable technologies are apparently developing even with open program codes available to all; therefore with people who in theory could easily use them for less than positive purposes. At the same time it is disturbing to see the progress made in the development of humanoid robots and how the use of quantum computers is becoming more and more widespread, some say that the arrival of artificial intelligence will be like a kind of tsunami that will wipe out entire categories of workers, activities, human creativity could become a simple accessory.

New chips that support artificial intelligence

The sales limits imposed by the United States on some microprocessors that support artificial intelligence highlight how computer architecture is now also changing; in fact, if once the CPU was the microprocessor that made the difference on computing capabilities, now it seems that the graphics processing unit (GPU) has become one of the key chips in Data Centers. The difference would seem to derive from the fact that in order to process questionable images with artificial intelligence it is necessary for the computer to have very considerable graphics capabilities and therefore the computing capacity of these types of chips, which also consume considerable amounts of energy, has grown dramatically in recent years; therefore, if more stringent regulations are called for at the international level to regulate artificial intelligence the development of GPU chips should be regulated.

Control regulations for artificial intelligence

Carrying out detailed reports and analyses on how the state of New York uses artificial intelligence software would be the purpose of a new recent legislation also aimed at software that uses algorithms, computational models or techniques that always exploit the potential of artificial intelligence, then this collected material will have to be posted online to be examined by government and legislative authorities. Experts have long been asking for more stringent regulations to regulate artificial intelligence, then for generative intelligence if really don't want to disable it completely, at least prohibit the use of images (or sequences that become videos) that cause intense but false emotions with consequences up to serious neurological disorders in the unfortunate victims of these incredibly sophisticated misleading images that perfectly simulate reality.

Artificial Intelligence for the school advertised

Despite the unfavorable opinion of experts who have serious doubts about the use of artificial intelligence in the school activities of applications supported by artificial intelligence it seems that they are increasingly advertised also in order to make them use more and more by the various administrations in the world with typical marketing campaigns. This sector (Ed tech) had a considerable boost during the Covid-19 pandemic with millions of children forced to stay at home using video learning systems, then with the reopening of schools companies seem to have tried to continue to promote their applications adding the artificial intelligence. Some say that in addition to increasing inequality are more the new problems that can be linked to the use of these technologies than the real benefits for students, then they probably won't solve the many challenges the future will present.

Countries that ban social media for minors

After Australia, Indonesia would also be willing to approve legislation banning the use of social media by minors due to concerns about the mental health of young people linked to the impact of these technologies, increasingly appreciated by a young audience that often spends long hours with their heads bowed almost hypnotized by smartphone screens. In Australia for example the ban on minors under sixteen also provides for a fine, other countries had already provided for restrictions but in this case we are talking about an absolute ban. Regarding the previous restrictions some complained that they could be circumvented and only applied in cases of social networks that required a subscription. It should be noted changing the subject but remaining on technological issues that major Canadian media accuse an artificial intelligence application of infringing copyrights.

Energy studies on how to exploit the sea waves

The transition to renewable energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels pushes us to look in sectors that still have several problems of effective use and, for example, new plants are being experimented with to exploit the waves of the sea and some say that they could also be among the energy sources of the future. It would be necessary to make sure that a system is resistant to sea corrosion, perhaps by immersing the part that converts the oscillatory motion into energy (complex and to be developed) only when a sensor detects the possibility of full exploitation; then the higher waves could damage the system and therefore also from this point of view it is necessary to study a protection system that intervenes appropriately. In practice even if the difficulties are many it is a clean energy source with great possibilities of development.

A code to counter the artificial intelligence

With increasingly realistic images, videos and texts generated by artificial intelligence, it is necessary according to experts to find a method to identify reality from function, putting a warning that it is non-real material could be a solution; but could also put a code for example on an image to be able to verify on a website if it is reality or fiction. Others argue that the amount of energy absorbed by generative artificial intelligence is simply excessive, what may seem like a simple request to an application perhaps capable of creating texts in a few moments, enriching them with images and videos seems to be enough to keep a light on for tens of minutes so much so that it will be necessary to build modular nuclear power plants to fuel all these enormous energy demands.

Nuclear energy for artificial intelligence

To fuel the enormous energy demands of systems that support generative artificial intelligence a well-known company, that has a monopoly for example in the online search market and other widespread applications, would be willing to use multiple small modular nuclear reactors (the first module is expected to be used by 2030, but first it will be necessary to obtain all the certifications from the authorities that regulate the nuclear sector). It is estimated that the demand in general for data processing centers could about triple by 2030, but some argue that it is not clear what the real consumption of artificial intelligence alone is; then as far as expensive nuclear modules built in factories instead of in a certain outdoor site there is talk of not respecting economies of scale very much and there are also problems related to the disposal of radioactive waste.

Ask your doctor if they use AI

A patient's personal data could be used by generative artificial intelligence platforms (raising questions related to privacy), at least according to the predictions of experts who warn that apparently some doctors already use artificial intelligence applications for example to automatically write the medical record by transcribing conversations with patients, then as these questionable technologies develop they will always be most used to increase the information obtained with visits. It has been noted that artificial intelligence is not always able to translate particular types of accents in a language, making errors of interpretation; then it is better to ask the doctor if he uses artificial intelligence, in this case also to verify that the documentation is correct.

From an image to a video with artificial intelligence

The unstoppable advance of generative artificial intelligence continues with new functions that apparently are much appreciated by those who make questionable completely false images (so-called deepfakes) and now there is talk of the arrival of an application that will allow to go from a photo to a video up to about sixteen seconds even by equipping it with audio; for example, animating a photograph of an event by making it become a video. It should not, according to the first statements, be a substitute for traditional artistic animations; but some doubt on this topic seems obvious as this far too automated technology develops. Another question is about the energy costs to create these animations that use sophisticated microprocessors and also for those who watch them, activating servers and computing centers located halfway around the world.
