Artificial intelligence increasingly dangerous

A new application to generate images based on artificial intelligence almost instantaneously and also with the possibility of remarkable sharpness and precision of detail would have been made available on an American social network (for the moment to users who have access to services with privileges) and apparently it is feared that it could be used to influence the next elections in the United States. Disparaging images have already been published that spread misinformation in the population without a filter being placed to avoid it, then lately many questionable images have been uploaded to websites made with generative artificial intelligence applications for some time (November 2022) used on a global scale and some also speak of a vicious circle that pushes them to be published faster and faster.

New sites built with artificial intelligence

To recognize if a new site that deals with current news has been created with artificial intelligence and it is just disinformation, according to experts have to look for example at the logo and see if the image makes sense including any text phrases included, then check that it is not a facade that really existed in the past but is no longer active, examine the errors made by neural networks to user requests and for the more experienced check the HTML code of the page and see what the reference addresses are (generally they point to the same server that can be identified). It is worth mentioning the significant increase in the resources allocated lately to the development of artificial intelligence with the use of tens of thousands of programmers, so in practice we are going in the opposite direction and do not try to put a stop to this questionable technology.

Undertested operating system updates

Following the IT chaos caused in many countries around the world by a malfunctioning software update (perhaps little tested) for a widely used operating system, controversy has arisen regarding the excessive dependence of entire production sectors on online computers and computers. It seems that in some cases remained unresolved it will take several days or even weeks to return to normal and solve the inefficiencies caused by those well-known and unpleasant blue screens of error with the danger of worsening the situation if turn to unscrupulous IT operators. Changing the subject but remaining on technological issues, the risk according to a recent study of that texts written with the help of artificial intelligence are all similar, in practice characterized by a lack of originality and a kind of qualitative leveling.

Artificial intelligence and emissions on the rise

It has long been argued that the use of artificial intelligence would increase greenhouse gas emissions, and recently a large company that owns a well-known search engine said that its AI-based data processing centers would cause an increase in climate-changing pollutant emissions into the atmosphere of forty-eight percent since 2019. It should be considered that electronic currencies are also an expanding sector that requires large amounts of energy to crypto the virtual currencies it mints, but apparently for example Bolivia has lifted its ban on the use of these questionable currencies and other countries are also increasingly oriented towards electronic payments that are only apparently simpler; in fact, at each payment checks are triggered that activate powerful and polluting servers.

Social media alerts such as cigarettes

According to some putting dissuasive warnings on cigarette packs could be a first step to try to curb the kind of addiction that many kids have for these unhealthy computer tools, at least according to proposals made in the United States, given the risks to mental health (such as attention, memory, sleep disorders, depression, anxiety) increasingly found in young people who spend many hours bent over the small screens of smartphones. However it is unlikely that they can be really effective even if some regulation must be taken in addition to making parents aware of the risks. It is worth mentioning changing the subject but remaining on technological issues of cases of questionable use for political campaigns of virtual candidates made with generative artificial intelligence.

Banning AI-based weapons

Over one hundred and fifteen countries and two hundred and fifty non-governmental organizations promote banning AI-supported weapons to identify potential enemies, these so-called killer robots have been defined by international organizations as a "morally repugnant" technology. Recently there has also been controversy over the use of a software (Lavender) that uses artificial intelligence to identify possible militants in the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, then previously some had pointed out the errors of assessment committed by the so-called intelligence that also exploited A.I. applications without considering that a machine for the moment cannot yet have an ethical conscience and to achieve the goal it could sacrificing many human lives in practice without any scruples.

Open letter against Artificial Intelligence

A group of employees in the field that develops artificial intelligence has reportedly sent an open letter denouncing how the economic motivations of A.I. companies hide what is actually being achieved and it is not believed that government regulations can be enough to change this discouraging picture. It is recalled that the issue in figurative terms of human extinction due to the prevalence of artificial intelligence; then the issues of misinformation are highlighted, the use of artificial images to influence electoral campaigns despite the existence of regulations that prohibit it. It also cites the fact that A.I. companies have "weak obligations" to share information with governments about the capabilities and limitations of their systems, adding that the letter group cannot share information voluntarily.

Even more simulation for artificial intelligence

A new version of a well-known generative artificial intelligence application defined as the most human ever developed will soon be released at least according to the first statements that underline the innovative features of this questionable technology capable of a realistic conversation with a voice that simulates the human one without the delays of previous versions and can also interact with texts and images; there is also talk of a fierce competition with other applications of this type that is apparently leading unfortunately to an unstoppable development. To report changing the subject but remaining on technological issues the recent intense geomagnetic storm with the ejection of plasma from the Sun which in addition to being truly spectacular (with lights floating in the sky) would have caused rare anomalies in the operation of some electronic devices.

Generative AI-powered search engine

The developers of applications based on generative artificial intelligence have reportedly announced the planning of a search engine that takes advantage of the innovative features of this questionable technology which apparently from the first statements allows better searches on the internet by overcoming interference. In the meantime complaints have multiplied about the use of copyrighted material without authorization (and obviously without present or future gratification or compensation) to feed the immeasurable computer memory one could say "thinking" of generative artificial intelligence, then some have referred to 1984 with advertising campaigns of a well-known computer manufacturer that also talk about the commitment against a dystopian future, but now it has become this dystopian future itself.

Don't let be governed by artificial intelligence

To safeguard human rights, protect personal data and monitor the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence more than one hundred and twenty countries have decided in a document that it is preferable to choose to govern artificial intelligence rather than let be governed by it. Improper use, the planning of malicious attacks, the development of artificial intelligence applications could undermine the promotion and enjoyment of fundamental rights and basic freedoms; then there is the risk of weakening the security of countries and their protection systems, of influencing elections, of depriving entire social classes of their jobs. It is one of the attempts to control a technology that does not seem to be very human-scale, but almost made to replace human intelligence, the imagination and creativity.
