Smog for smoke from fires in Indonesia

The fires that have been affecting the rainforest of Sumatra and Kalimantan for weeks raise clouds of smoke dense with particulate matter that reaches great distances and greatly worsens air quality with health damage for thousands of people, then smoking it can carry bacteria that promote infections as it appears to have happened in the case of a four-month-old baby who died of pneumonia and meningitis. Indonesian health authorities reportedly monitored more than one hundred-six thousand patients for respiratory conditions in Palembang in South Sumatra, over sixty-one thousand in the city of Jambi and over twenty-three thousand in Palangkaraya in central Kalimantan. It should be noted by completely changing the subject but remaining on issues related to respiratory diseases that is growing the focus on e-cigarettes and their possible dangerousness after some documented deaths in the United States.

Unbearable heat across Europe

After the unbearable heat wave that hit France and in particular the capital Paris with temperatures of almost forty-two Celsius degrees the country authorities would be studying a strategy to increase vegetation in the city; In fact, for example the bitumen under the sun exceeds fifty Celsius degrees helping to form unhealthy islands and heat reserves that keep temperatures high in the city even at night, but in the shade of vegetation this temperature is reduced to about thirty-five degrees. Useful then to make more livable cities replace asphalt with a mixture formed by sand and gravel or other light and porous materials that are often used in public parks. To teport then the records temperature reached in the Netherlands (over forty degrees in the municipality of Gilze Rijen), Belgium, Germany and Austria where a child who had fallen asleep in a car parked in the sun was found lifeless; very hot even in Italy especially in Florence.

African-matrix heat wave over Italy

The anticyclone that from the Sahara desert in Africa makes its influence felt throughout Europe, increasingly replacing over the years with the traditional summer anticyclone of the Azores that originates off the Atlantic Ocean, is causing temperatures to rise in Italy so much so that in cities such as Ferrara, Florence and Terni heat peaks are expected around forty Celsius degrees even if the humidity seems not to be too high and therefore a fairly dry heat is more bearable (unlike what happened these days in New York, Philadelphia, Washington and other midwestern cities in the United States where oppressive heat due to high humidity has put a strain on population resistance). It is worth noting changing the subject but always regarding the high temperatures the algae blooms monitored in several European beaches due also to the poor oxygenation of the water, a phenomenon that causes putrefaction and bad smell as happened for example in Saint-Brieuc in northwest France.

Heatwave over New York

The high temperatures monitored in New York have forced the authorities to urge citizens to be cautious and avoid traveling, as well as setting up a rescue center to allow people without air conditioning to cool down (the fifty-year-old landing celebrations were also cancelled in the city); in fact, a heat wave is declared after three days of scorching heat considering that after two really hot days the forecast announces for tomorrow temperatures around thirty-eight Celsius degrees with high humidity rate that means to perceive a much greater heat. The whole region is affected by the heat wave, after a storm a few days ago that also caused a casualty, but for the metropolis some define the situation as terrible due to the formation of heat islands, then it will also have to limit air conditioners to avoid overloading the power grid.

A sustainable lawn for the nature

The satisfaction of having a nice lawn around your home could have significant implications for the environment; in fact, to keep the green coloration of the turf and avoid the so-called weed we have to use fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides that end up polluting the soil and the whole ecosystem, then in the summer periods it will be necessary to water with large amounts of water; so according to the researchers, if look at these factors and their overall energy share, the lawn ends up emitting more carbon dioxide than it can absorb. It seems that the lawn is a kind of gimmick devised in medieval times in order to be able to spot friends or enemies from an appropriate distance from the vantage points of the castles; then over time it has become a kind of status symbol for rich people who compete about the perfect sheaing of the turf, but it would be better to leave the natural (and salutary) look with the typical flowers that attract pollinating insects.

Europe in the grip of the heat

Temperatures well above forty Celsius degrees in large areas of Europe are causing several problems and inconveniences, then there is talk of three victims in Paris and fires in Spain near Tarragona where two thousand five hundred hectares of vegetation were burned. In Germany, a speed limit has been set on some sections of the fast highways for fear that the asphalt may partially melt due to heat and thus causing accidents. Health authorities warn to be cautious during the hottest hours of the day considering that even at night temperatures remain high not allowing the body to recover. Quite hot even in places that do not suffer the influence of heat islands such as city parks, countryside and mountain. In Italy affected by the heat wave of African origin in particular the north-west; for example Turin, then very hot also in Milan (to report two victims).

We ingest too many plastic micropracticelles

If we add up all the sources contaminated with plastics derivatives will probably reach the number of hundreds of thousands of plastic microparticles every year, at least according to the opinion of researchers who experience how the environment is saturated with plastic fragments of the dimensions that vary from the five millimeters to a few microns present in each place and therefore oceans, lakes, rivers, arctic ice, land and air. One of the major sources of plastic contaminants would be the synthetic textile fibres, for example from clothes in polyester, nylon and acrylic as well as anything like carpets. As far as health risks, there is still no clear evidence of the damage; then many microparticles are caught and expelled from the digestive tract and airways (through the mucosa and ciliary apparatus), but from animal studies would result an abnormal response of the immune system with a kind of inflammation and stress.

Teaching children not to smoke

The day promoted by as no to tobacco for the health of the lungs by international organizations would have been exploited by a large company selling electronic cigarettes as an alternative solution against the use of tobacco, but apparently at laboratory tests the liquids of these new devices (without tobacco) are even more damaging than cigarettes for the organism. We should teach children already at the age of eleven not to smoke, since some studies warn how at that stage of life young people begin to become familiar with this unhealthy habit that turns out to be even more damaging to all the organs and especially for the respiratory tree at a young age. One of the methods to prevent children from starting to smoke is to avoid seeing people with charisma who smoke on television and in films distracting them with playful activities, then it is important to pay attention to the hygiene of the eyes and mouth, especially of the teeth.

A nap to lower the pressure

Taking a nap during the day would lower the pressure in the same way as other healthy lifestyle changes, at least according to a study by Greek researchers who would have monitored better readings with an average of five mmHg less; moreover for each resting hour the systolic or maximum pressure decreases by an average of three mmHg with respect to the pressure levels. This could have positive effects on the organism avoiding serious problems to the cardiovascular apparatus, then improve the measurements taken throughout the day and quantifiable to give an example in about 128/76 against the 134/79 mmHg of who does not a nap. Don't is want to encourage people to sleep for hours during the day but just to take a break and not feel guilty having the healthful benefits that can get.

Compensation in Canada for tobacco damage

Some cigarette companies due to the effect of a class action would have been condemned in Canada to pay a large sum for compensation from damage to health caused by tobacco smoke even if it still remains to await the last degree of judgement. The sum will benefit of about one hundred thousand people and then in practice divided into small reparations, but it is still an important result. There are many criticisms that environmentalists are advancing against the tobacco industry accused of being very polluting, with a production chain not environmentally friendly, then cigarette butts are the most common use of plastic disposable that does not come in mostly recycled. If the demand for tobacco continues to grow, we will see alarming environmental degradation due to the large demand for land, water, energy, pesticides and fertilizers.
