Measures to improve air quality
Among the highly polluted cities that have managed to improve air quality over the years, some give the example of Beijing; in fact, it seems that the Chinese capital with twenty million residents was particularly dependent on coal for heating homes and polluted by car emissions, so the authorities in 1998 decided to adopt measures to improve air quality, starting with the most polluting devices, coal-fired boilers, cleaner fuels and industrial renovations (but with emissions delocalised). There is talk of a reduction between 2013 and 2017 of thirty-five percent in PM2.5 concentrations, then reductions in pollutants that are always very harmful to health such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and PM10, also promoting the use for example of electric cars, public transport, industrial transformations, afforestation, regional cooperation.
