Adaptation of crops to climate change
A significant decline in crops is expected in the coming decades according to some studies for example for wheat and cereals due to global warming, but appropriate adaptation practices by farmers could make a difference, which could limit the spike in prices of all foods that have wheat and cereals as ingredients, the production of which is anyway destined to decrease even while trying to adapt to climate change. Among the strategies to adopt there is talk of planting different varieties with fertilizers and irrigation targeted to those specific varieties, then some argue that it is necessary to monitor plant health with specific tools so that they are not attacked by pests; indeed, a struggling crop becomes more susceptible to diseases and the yield tends to decrease drastically due to the self-defense mechanisms of the seedlings.
