A law regulating chatbots in California
Operators of AI-based chatbots will be required to regulate them to safeguard interactions with users, at least according to the intentions of a law enacted in California; as recently online users have increasingly been using these artificial dialogue systems to look for accurate information despite the growing misinformation associated with these chatbots. There have been definitely unpleasant incidents involving young people whose attention was caught by generative AI, and therefore there is an effort to regulate chatbots so that they cannot interact with children or vulnerable individuals to induce them to extreme actions; consequently chatbot operators will need to adopt safety measures and provide a pathway that helps address potential tragedies and harm to users.
