Ebola cases in Congo and Uganda

Researchers are trying to understand through genetic sequencing how the Ebola outbreak in Congo's Ituri province may have occurred causing sixty-five deaths and two hundred forty-six suspected cases, while in Uganda there is talk of one victim with infections apparently coming from Congo. African health authorities from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, South Sudan and international partners are working to increase border controls in order to address the situation for a virus like Ebola considered highly contagious and often fatal despite the treatments and vaccines that have been developed in recent years. Since the first case identified in 1976 in Zaire now the Democratic Republic of Congo at least fifteen thousand people have died in Africa, the virus (or group of viruses) is transmitted through bodily fluids, with main symptoms such as fever, bleeding and diarrhea.
