It is possible to prevent or delay dementia

By changing risk factors like those from tobacco smoking, alcohol abuse, social isolation, lack of physical activity, air pollution and other conditions (called "noncommunicable" or NCDs, including high blood pressure and diabetes) it is possible to prevent or delay over forty-five percent of dementia cases, at least according to international health organizations which highlight that dementia is the seventh leading cause of death among older people worldwide and one of the main causes of disability and dependence on help from others. Fifty-seven million people are living with dementia globally and there are almost ten million new diagnoses each year with Alzheimer's being the most common in sixty to seventy percent of cases, creating a significant burden for the families of the patient and generally for everyone.
