Negative effects of fires and overheating
Efforts to improve air quality could be undone by the negative effects on health and ecosystems from fires and overheating which produce microscopic pollutants in the air, at least according to statements from international organizations that point out that since 1990 these events have tripled globally and potentially caused almost a hundred thousand extra deaths each year from 2010 to 2018. In addition to the fine particulate matter harmful to the cardiovascular system produced by fires, which can travel long distances across oceans and continents, high temperatures also add air microplastic particles and ground-level ozone; this has harmful effects on the respiratory tract and could cause thousands of premature deaths due to respiratory diseases.
